چکیده

This paper presents an anthropomorphic robot hand called Gifu Hand III, which is a modified version of Gifu Hand II. The Gifu Hand is aimed to be used as a platform of robot hands for robotics research. The Gifu Hand III is improved on the points of backlash of transmission, opposability of the thumb, and mobility space of fingertips. The opposability of the thumb is evaluated by a cubature of opposable space. An explicit kinematical relation between the fourth joint and the third one is shown, where the fourth joint is engaged with the third joint by a planar four-bars linkage mechanism. The distributed tactile sensor, which has grid pattern electrodes and uses conductive ink, is mounted on the hand surface. The sensor presents 235 points expansion relatively to that of the Gifu Hand II. To reduce insensitive area, the electrodes width and pitch are expanded and narrowed, respectively. In consequence, the insensitive area is reduced to 49.1%. Experiments of grasping several objects are shown. With these improvements and experiments, the Gifu hand III has a higher potential to perform dexterous object manipulations like the human hand.

Educational-industrial complex development of an anthropomorphic robot hand 'Gifu hand'

It is expected that forthcoming humanoid robots will execute various complicated tasks via communication with a human user. The humanoid robots will be equipped with anthropomorphic multi-fingered hands very like the human hand. We call this a humanoid hand robot. Humanoid hand robots will eventually supplant human labor in the execution of intricate and dangerous tasks in areas such as manufac...

Dexterous Anthropomorphic Robot Hand With Distributed Tactile Sensor: Gifu Hand II

This paper presents an anthropomorphic robot hand called the Gifu hand II, which has a thumb and four fingers, all the joints of which are driven by servomotors built into the fingers and the palm. The thumb has four joints with four-degrees-of-freedom (DOF); the other fingers have four joints with 3-DOF; and two axes of the joints near the palm cross orthogonally at one point, as is the case i...

Unknown Object Grasping Strategy Imitating Human Grasping Reflex for Anthropomorphic Robot Hand

This paper presents a strategy meant to allow anthropomorphic robot hands to grasp objects of unknown shape in imitation of the human grasping reflex. A 10-month-old baby may bend his/her thumb and four fingers in an attempt to grasp an object when it comes in contact with the palm. After grasping it, if the object is attempted to be removed from the baby’s hand, the baby holds the object more ...

Grasping of Unknown Object Imitating Human Grasping Reflex

This paper presents a grasping strategy of unknown objects imitating human grasping reflex for anthropomorphic robot hands. In the proposed grasping, each joint of the thumb and the fingers is controlled independently using the contact force affecting its adjacent fingertip side link. By setting a suitable contact force, both fingertip grasping and enveloped grasping with uniform grasping force...
